EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S REPORT for NOVEMBER 2020

  •  Barbara Banks, the wife of long-time golfer and supporter Leon Banks, passed away this past month.
  •  The past month, Aloha Music continued on Zoom and Twitch as a means of supporting Social and Emotional needs of employees, school districts and guests in the areas of Mindfulness.  Over 300 participated in Ohana Night on November 12th on Twitch and Facebook Live and on Saturday November 7th, almost 250 participated on Twitch, a significant increase, about 500 total with Facebook Live. These sessions are also used to market all NPIEN events.
  •  At the SAVERS fundraiser on November 7th, Sean Munley, Tino Andres and the Thompson’s transported about 70 bags and boxes of used clothes, books, etc. to the SAVERS Store in Lomita.  We received $77.00 and a donation was made to the Epilepsy Foundation.  We are recommending another date.
  •  Dr. Thompson appeared on the Island Radio show with David Brown on November 11th, paid tribute to the Veterans, and discussed the 19th Annual Education Conference plus the April 26th Golf Tournament.
  •  Manufou Liaiga-Anoa’i was re-elected to the Jefferson Elementary School District Board of Education.
  •  Dr. Suely Saro, a long-time advocate for the Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander community and former field deputy for Senator Raul Lara, was elected to the Long Beach City Council, the first Cambodian American.
  •  Arab Americans and Native Pacific Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders were not included in the original California State Ethnic Studies curriculum.  We were given assurances that both would, yet we just learned that Arab Americans were moved to an Appendix section.  We are working to provide support to Arab Americans, who supported us.

We have been around since 1976 spreading the joy of local Hawaiian cuisine at prices that is hard to beat. We cater from small family gatherings from as little as 4 guests and up to larger parties of 1000 guests. Our services include catering for pick up or catering with delivery service. We can also serve your guests buffet style with our experienced staff.

We offer a range of catering combo specials from your small family deals that serve 4 & 6 guests. Our larger catering combos start from 12 guests and up to 72 guests. Our prices for caterings are as low as $4.19 per person. Let us know your budget; we will do our best to fit a menu that suits your needs.
We feature all the local Hawaiian dishes like: Saimin Soup, Loco Moco, Lau Lau, Spam Musubi, Beef Stew, Portuguese Sausage Breakfast, Hamburger Steak, Hawaiian BBQ Chicken, Kalua Pork, Portuguese Fried Rice, Chicken Katsu, Teriyaki Beef, etc... Just too much to list.

We are well known for our Royales. Our Hawaiian Royale is made with Portuguese Sausage, Char Sui, Scrambled Eggs, and Bean Sprouts & Green Onions over Steamed Rice. Then you season it with a little of our Homemade Teriyaki Sauce. So Ono!

Los Angeles Times Magazine, January 30, 2005, describes Rutt’s Hawaiian Café’s food as “Portions are huge. Meals are cheap.” In keeping with the Hawaiian Culture, making sure our guests get plenty of food is a tradition, we make this a truism at both of our restaurants.

Check out our website @ www.ruttscafe.com, our pages @ www.Facebook.com. We feature Special Priced Catering Combos that are economical. Our prices are so competitive that Event Planners use us to cater their events; they are still able to make a good profit.

We are used frequently by groups like: Halaus, schools, athletic club, scholastic organizations, etc... For fundraisers and can help your organization make profits that you will be very pleased with.

Rainbow Style Gravy
Review By: Laurie K Chun

Aloha, this is the creator of this recipe since i have made this recipe i found an easier way to make it. instead of using the ramen packets i found the seasoning 'Steak Dust' to be the same thing but now you don't have to use the packets and can make alot more gravy at a time. i also found adding 1 tbs of tomato sauce and worcestershire sauce and a teaspoon of chili powder to make it even better! try it, its worth it!
