Hālau ʻŌlelo: Hawaiian Language Worldwide Popular
Hālau ʻŌlelo is an online network sharing Hawaiian language around the world. Founder and director, Kainoa Embernate, is an educator of Hawaiian language and culture from Hilo, Hawai’i. He holds a MA in Indigenous Language and Culture Education, a BA in Hawaiian Studies and a certificate in Indigenous Teacher Education from the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo. After graduating, he lectured at University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo for five years at undergraduate and masters levels. In addition, he taught pre-kindergarten through high school level students at the Hawaiian immersion laboratory school, Nāwahīokalaniʻōpuʻu. Based in New York City, Kainoa is working on an nationwide project looking at the growing Hawaiian and Pacific presence in every U.S. state and providing access to a living culture through ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi to inspire learning and promote cultural collaboration.
