Three Days of Aloha Workshops
Red Lion Hotel On The River- Portland, OR
Three Days of Aloha Hula and Craft Workshop Registration is now open for Ke Kukui Foundation's 2013 Three Days of Aloha Workshop, with some of the islands most renowned kumu offering classes in hula and traditional Hawaiian arts and crafts. The workshops take place Thursday, July 24 and Friday, July 25, at the Red Lion Hotel on the River in Jantzen Beach, Oregon. Returning for this year’s hula workshops are our Three Days of Aloha favorites, na kumu hula Robert Cazimero, Charles "Manu" Boyd and Victoria Holt Takamine offering Kahiko (ancient) and ‘Auana (modern) hula for beginning to advanced levels, along with haku mele (songwriting) and oli (chant). We’re very excited to announce a new hula workshop this year, “hula pu’uwai,” (hula from the heart) a seated chair hula for those with physical limitations, with Three Days of Aloha founder Deva Yamashiro. Traditional Hawaiian arts and crafts workshops include: ‘Ohe Kapala (Hawaiian stamp) and Hina‘i Lauhala (basketweaving) with Maile Andrade; Lei Haku I, a beginning lei haku (braiding) and Lei Wili I, a beginning lei wili (twisting) workshop with Allie Jeremiah and Hulu Lei Pua, a marigold feather lei class with kumu Aunty Paulette Kahalepuna. Hawaiian history buffs can take a walking tour workshop to “The Village” (Kanaka Village) at Fort Vancouver - possibly the oldest settlement of Native Hawaiians anywhere on the US continent - where Native Hawaiians helped make the Hudson Bay Company’s trading post the hub of North American commercial trade.... 4th Annual Aloha Spirit Bash
Elings Park- Santa Barbara, CA
Come Share the Aloha at the 4th Annual Aloha Spirit Bash in Santa Barbara Santa Barbara, Calif. — the Aloha Spirit Bash returns to Santa Barbara for a fourth year, 12pm-6pm on Saturday July 27th at Elings Park soccer field. The Aloha Spirit Bash brings together the best in Hawaiian dance groups, Hawaiian music, food and beverages to benefit the local nonprofits, Sansum Diabetes Research Institute, the Challenger’s Little League, Franklin Eagles Handball program and CALM. Admission is only $30 per person and includes entrance to the event, as well as food and beverage. Children under the age of 10 are free. Dance halau/groups scheduled to perform include Tina’s Ports of Paradise, Pacific Legends, and Hoapili Pomaika'i Aloha. Music groups scheduled to perform include Kauai's up and coming Hawaiian Teddy Bear, Lilikoi Jam featuring Joanie Collins, Island Connection, and Rian Basilo & the Roostah's. There will also be a raffle and several silent auction items. This family-friendly event encourages festival goers to bring their blankets, beach chairs, and umbrellas for picnic-style seating.
