This is one AWESOMELY DELICIOUS cake and the best part? It's the easiest cake to make! I made it for my husband's birthday and he looved it! My inlaws loved it too (big PLUS!) The guava gel is especially my favorite -- so nostalgic for me when I was back home in Hawaii! A hometown bakery added it to my cake when I turned 1 and it's still a favorite 30 years later!

This a great recipe for guava cake that I use all the time for pot lucks and family gatherings. I have tried to change a few things that make the cake taste even better. I prefer to use white cake mixes and add red food coloring to the batter. For those that live on the mainland, Walmart sells Guava Nectar in the 1/2 gallon size. I use that in my cakes. Also, I have found it helpful to double the "gel" on the cake. For the gel, I use 4 cups of guava nectar and (1/2 cup corn starch mixed with 1/22 gauva nectar) and stir that the juice mixture. Enhances the taste a lot.

I tried this recipe, for the first time, last week. It was a HIT at the office Luau Retirement Party! I had a harder time finding the guava juice/nectar than making it.

It was a bit time consuming to make (about an hour / 1.5 hours), then again I have a 15 month old baby.

Being from the carribean (Puerto Rico) I was concerned it wouldn't take like guava... boy was I wrong?! It was delicious! Since it needs to be refrigerated, before serving, it was refreshing to have on a hot summer afternoon.

Try this recipe, even if you're not an experienced baker. Such a treat! Enjoy!

This recipe was very delicious. However, it was unclear which sugar was for the cream cheese frosting or guava glaze. For the cream cheese frosting I used 1 cup powdered sugar and the glaze was 1 cup granulated sugar. Also, for color, I added 4 drops of red food coloring in the cake batter and guava glaze. This is a keeper! Thank you!
