He is called the Hawaiian Jimi Hendrix…Gabby Pahinui, Andres Segovia and Eddie Van Halen all rolled into one -Willie K. is storming into Santa Cruz for a rare performance with his band at The Rio, Thursday, June 16th.
Willie is no stranger to Santa Cruz. While past performances have featured him solo or with an accomplished acoustic guitar partner or two, this is the first time in recent memory that he will be pulling out all the stops and showing his chops with some hard hitting blues, rock, reggae and who knows what else.
This is not your father’s grass skirts and coconut bras hula show. Dubbed the Warehouse Blues Tour, the breath of Pele (Hawaiian goddess of fire) and the fierce spirits of ancient warriors will explode from his Stratocaster.
“There is so much more music to be made here in Hawaii, and I’m sure to make it happen if at all possible. There are no limits any more” says Willie.
Santa Cruz locals Matt Masih & the Messengers are set to open the show.
