The San Diego Hoʽolauleʽa (Hawaiian Festival) & Keiki Heihei Wa'a (Youth Canoe Regatta). We have joined hands as Hawaiians and Hawaiians at Heart with a mission to promote Culture, Lōkahi,and the Spirit of Aloha, with our main goal to share our Hawaiian Culture , and a lengendary story with this year’s theme celebrating our "Goddess" Madame Pele with a production of PAOA with the help of a Halau TBA at the same time we will be holding our second annual Keiki Heihei Wa'apa ( Keiki Canoe Regatta)
This is sure to be something some of us have never seen before here on the mainland and maybe even in Hawaii, as we bring to life the story of Madame Pele: "PAOA" which we know will thrill all ages from nā Keiki to Kūpuna.
Last year’s theme Mauka to Makai promoted coming to a new land. This year we present the story of PAOA : "the divine rod by which Pele tested suitability of areas for excavation on the Island of Nihoa, at various, places on Oahu, (Salt Lake, Punchbowl, Diamondhead, Maka Pu'u and on Maui, Finally she planted the staff in Pana-ewe, Hawaii and it became a tree.
Our emphasis is to bring a different story of our culture every year to promote our Hawaiian Heritage as well as all other ethnic diversity of the Hawaiian Islands.
There will be food vendors, music, hula, boutique vendors, Poi pounding workshop put on by Kamehameha Schools for all ages, a Kapa workshop by renouned kumu Dalani, we will have pre registration information available on our website in a week or so limited 25 adults and 25 keiki with a minimal cost for this workshop. Other workshops including but not limited to nā mea hana lima such as ipu making, lei making, pu‘ohe making, ol'i workshops, lei hulu and much more.
This will be a two day event where we hope to allow non-profit food vendors to make money for their organizations and special projects. We have opened our food vending up to the private sector on a first come first serve basis. All Boutique vendors may be, for profit or nonprofit we still have room for more vendors.
