JIM ‘”KIMO” WEST, LEOKANE PRYOR, and CJHELEHAKI..... "Songs Of Hana, Maui" with slack key guitar master, Jim Kimo West- featuring the superb vocals and ukuleles of Leokane Pryor and CJ Helehaki .

"H’na, Maui. Raw and seemingly untouched. Honest and hospitable. Pristine, gorgeous, rugged, vibrant, majestic and ripe. Hana is the embodiment of easy-living. And in the words of songwriter and musician CJ Helekahi, a place where you can see the stars at night, the dark side of the moon, and a place you never leave”.

One of the most Hawaiian areas in the islands, the sleepy village of Hana in East Maui is truly a magical place, not only for it’s physical beauty but for the rich cultural fabric that defines it. Kimo has spent a large part of the last thirty years here and it is in Hana that he starting playing music with Leokane and CJ, at the old Hotel Hana Maui, now called Travaasa.

Although they have performed together many times in Hana, this is a rare occasion to see Kimo perform with Leokane and CJ here on the mainland. Both Leokane and CJ play ukulele and sing in the “leo ki’e ki’e or "Hawaiian falsetto" style which has deep roots in Hawaiian culture. They are both Mountain Apple recording artists, they same label that brought “Braddah Iz” Kamakawiwo’ole to fame. Together they bring a purity and honesty in their performances that is truly a reflection of their home, a place of warm aloha and pristine beauty.

This show will focus on traditional songs from East Maui as well as some new songs about Hana, played on ukulele and slack key guitar. Joining Kimo, Leokane and CJ will be bassist Boise Kawaiaea who will be playing here on the mainland for the very first time. Traditional hula will also be part of the program.
