Loea will be doing his 6th annual 5 day Ewe O Ka Hula Workshop and he will also be blessing our new building on Grand Avenue in Escondido! Kawaikapuokalani Hewett is most well known as a Haku Mele (composer). He has written over 100 songs and chants - more than any other living Hawaiian composer. He is the Founder and Directer since 1978 of Kuhai Halau O Kawaikapuokalani Pa Olapa Kahiko (Hula group for experiencing the art of ancient dance), he was also the Spiritual Director of the Waimanalo Health Clinic on Oahu for many years. His teachers include his grandmother, Iwa Kanae, Aunty Emma DeFries, Iolani Luahine, and Edith Kanaka'ole. Kawaikapuokalani shares much of his family's background and values. He is a delight to be with and enjoys "playing" as well as teaching. His is a judge for the Merry Monarch 2016 and continues to be the Master of Ceremonies at the E Hula Mau Competition in Long Beach where he has enjoyed volunteering for the past 20 years. Although Loea Kawaikapuokalani mostly teaches trained teachers, these hula workshops presented by Kuhai Halau O Kekā'eilaua'eokalani Pa `Olapa Kahiko provides a unique opportunity for hula dancers at all levels to learn directly from a true master of the art.
