Description
Fans of Hawaiian music are in for a rare treat in Southern Oregon this summer. The First Annual Umpqua Hula and the Arts Multicultural Festival features not one, but four highly acclaimed musical groups from Hawai’i. The two-day event takes place August 21-22, 2010 at the Umpqua Community College. It is hosted by He Kula Na Mea Hawai’i (The School of Things Hawaiian), a non-profit organization dedicated to the perpetuation the Hawaiian cultural heritage.
Saturday's lineup includes the Makaha Sons and Darlene Ahuna. Sunday's headliners include Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom and Na Palapalai. Halau Hula O Na Pua O Hawaii Nei and Aulani Hula Halau will also perform during the festival.
The Festival will highlight the cultural diversity of our community and all of the performers will enchant you with rhythm, music, song and dance. The stage performances are set amidst vendor booths that include arts and crafts, antiques, community organizations, award-winning wines of the southern Oregon region and wonderful food all with items to sell.
