Hula Association of the Midwest AlohaWorld Ohana

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I realize this wish is a little late. But I say it's never too late to wish someone well. And all of us who have done so much to perpetuate our Aloha in the Midwest, you rightfully deserve to have all the best this year has to offer.

Last year was truly tremendous for Hula Midwest! All the Halau's are growing with more members. Thus, our events are overflowing with more and more peeps, (my grandson said peeps mean people). They're providing more classes, allowing us old folks to pass on our Hawaiian traditions and Aloha spirit. However, what's been known is, if they don't listen, we drag them by the ear and make them do it. That's also a tradition.

At our last workshop, Kumu Hula Leialoha Lim and her husband Mel Amina, who was one of the first Makaha Sons, played outstanding music. They are also known for jamming with other musicians. All the participants, in the past, got to know them well because they interact. Too, after we close the place down, the fun continues at the Tiki Terrace. This party is the best. No one's shy here.

Before the world ends, we intend to have a mini workshop in the spring. We will let you know the exact date later with enough time for you to arrange your participation.

Our annual Luau will happen the 3rd weekend in May. This should be a doozy. There will be  Uke, and Hula classes for the beginners as well as the advanced. These courses will be taught by members on our website. .

All of these events will be held at the Little Sisters of the Poor, and the after party at Tiki Terrace.

Lucky we live or was born in Hawaii, cause now we can teach and share our roots to whomever is willing to learn. Especially our children!
