National Pacific Islander Educator Network (NPIEN) AlohaWorld Ohana

On behalf of the National Pacific Islander Educator Network (NPIEN),  we would like to thank you for your past support of our organization.  The months of March, April, and May are dedicated to our Annual Sustaining Membership Drive (ASMD).

  •  NPIEN is a Pacific Islander 501c3 nonprofit education organization that encourages students to complete high school and attend college.  We are educators and professionals who work with Pacific Islander students.
  •  Since only one out of ten Pacific Islander youth graduate from college, your support is extremely important.
  •  NPIEN members visit elementary, middle, and high schools as guest speakers, mentors and role models  In 2010 we visited 15 schools, and met with over 300 students.
  •  The 10th  NPIEN annual conference, to be November 12, 2011, is a community gathering attended by over 300 parents, students, teachers, and community members – to improve college and career opportunities and introduce students to positive Pacific Islander mentors.

Your donation supports the annual conference, mentoring visits to schools,  and provides grants and scholarships to students.  By making a minimum $30 donation/pledge today, and no later than May 1, 2011, your conference registration is also included at a $10 discount.  Donate online at www.npien.com

Kamaka Brown AlohaWorld Ohana

AlohaWorld's Roving Ambassador, Kamaka Brown offers a glimpse of what it was like growing up in the islands with his warm, funny and introspective original Hawaiian Pidgin English stories.

"If Can Can. If No Can No Can" on DVD captures Kamaka live on stage with slack key guitarist T. Dan Hofstedt.  "Tales from da Hanabuddah Days" on CD features Kamaka with classical slack key offerings by Joe Thompson. Both formats work as Kamaka offers a whimsical journey back to Hawai'i of the 50's and 60's.

"Aloha Happens" shirts and stickers along with both the DVD and CD are available on line at www.kamakabrown.com

Come and join us at Rutt's Hawaiian Cafe and Catering.

We have been around since 1976 spreading the joy of local Hawaiian cuisine at prices that is hard to beat.

We cater from small family gatherings from as little as 4 guests and up to larger parties of 1000 guests.  Our services include catering for pick up or catering with delivery service.  We can also serve your guests buffet style with our experienced staff.

We offer a range of catering combo specials from your small family deals that serve 4 & 6 guests.  Our larger catering combos start from 12 guests and up to 72 guests. Our prices for caterings are as low as $4.19 per person.  Let us know your budget; we will do our best to fit a menu that suits your needs.

We feature all the local Hawaiian dishes like:  Saimin Soup, Loco Moco, Lau Lau, Spam Musubi, Beef Stew, Portuguese Sausage Breakfast, Hamburger Steak, Hawaiian BBQ Chicken, Kalua Pork, Portuguese Fried Rice, Chicken Katsu, Teriyaki Beef, etc...  Just too much to list.

We are well known for our Royales.  Our Hawaiian Royale is made with Portuguese Sausage, Char Sui, Scrambled Eggs, and Bean Sprouts & Green Onions over Steamed Rice.  Then you season it with a little of our Homemade Teriyaki Sauce.  So Ono!

Los Angeles Times Magazine, January 30, 2005, describes Rutt’s Hawaiian Café’s food as “Portions are huge.  Meals are cheap.”  In keeping with the Hawaiian Culture, making sure our guests get plenty of food is a tradition, we make this a truism at both of our restaurants.

Check out our website @ www.ruttscafe.com, our pages @ www.Facebook.com & www.myspace.com  We feature Special Priced Catering Combos that are economical.  Our prices are so competitive that Event Planners use us to cater their events; they are still able to make a good profit.

Recipe Reviews

  • Aunty Ayame's Shoyu Chicken
    Review By: Mrs. M.
I made last night for my family. All I can say is AWESOME. It's one of the best shoyu chicken recipe ever. My kids loved it on their hot rice. They asked for seconds. I love it and I will be making this again and again.
  • Korean Bean Sprout Namul #1
    Review By: Clinton Medicinecrow
Very good! Tasted just like the sprouts you get in the Korean BBQ's in Honolulu. Best to use all at one meal though as it doesn't keep that good in the fridge (loses it's good flavor if it gets too cold).
  • Korean Style Potatoes
    Review By: Clinton Medicinecrow
Good flavor and very simple to prepare! Tasted just like the way it is made at Peppa's and Yummy Korean BBQ in Honolulu. Tastes pretty good after being refidgerated as well.
  • Portugese Bean Soup
    Review By: Clinton Medicinecrow
Really tasty recipe and very easy to make. Be careful not to use too much water however and a small can of tomato paste gives a bit more intense flavor.

We invite you to submit RECIPE REVIEWS for those recipes you have tried and love. It is a great way to share aloha with the "virtual" AlohaWorld ohana. Simply find your favorite recipes and click on the Review This Recipe link.
