Mochiko Chicken Review By: Victor I remember the first time I ate Mochiko chicken was when my friend from work invited me to his home for dinner. Unfortunately my friend's wife had burnt the Mochiko chicken she served us. Despite that it still tasted ono that I had to learn to make this dish. I think out of all the Mochiko chicken recipes this one was very simple and did not require the use of Japanese rice vinegar. Although I like the flavor the rice vinegar adds to the recipe a small bottle of this liquid is very pricey at my local supermarket. I have cooked this recipe with and without the skin, and I have to say remove the skin. I made a tray of Mochiko chicken for a pot-luck lunch at work, and left the skin on and they came out charred that my co-workers called it "Lava Chicken" (But they said the meat was very tasty). To lessen the prep time I used a bag boneless/skinless chicken thighs then cut them in half, and instead of cloves of garlic I used garlic powder. I did choose to dash some Sesame seeds to give the pieces that added texture. I deep fried the pieces at 350-360 degrees for 4 minutes turning them over every minute (recipes with sugar you have to monitor). I allowed the cooked chicken to rest before serving, and it was ono! So ono my wife took half of the tray of Mochiko chicken to let my mother in-law sample my culinary efforts. This recipe is definitely a keeper.
Easy Biscuits Review By: kaj it is the bestest ever! after many many baking mishaps . . this is the ONE! span>
LoLomi Lomi Salmon #2 Review By: Victor Out of the 4 recipes for Lomi Lomi Salmon that are posted on Aloha World, this one caught my attention because these four ingredients: Lime juice, Sugar, Tabasco sauce, pepper; whoever heard of adding SUGAR? I just had to try this recipe. I selected two salmon fillets and trimming off the skin, then I covered them in rock salt (I used Hawaiian Salt) and let them sit in the refrigerator overnight. The next day I gave the fillets a water rinse then diced them, and the did the same for the round and green onions. For the tomatoes you can remove the skin and the seeds before dicing them; it depends on your preference. When it came to the those four ingredients I added a teaspoon of each and thoroughly mixed everything. My taste buds were pleasantly surprised! There was the tangy flavor of the Lime, and the spiciness of the black pepper and Tabasco sauce. I believe sugar is what balance them all out to give the Lomi Lomi Salmon that special taste I just instantly enjoyed! As I always say, "THIS ONE IS DEFINITELY A KEEPER."
Guava Cake #2 Review By: sir fix alot This a great recipe for guava cake that I use all the time for pot lucks and family gatherings. I have tried to change a few things that make the cake taste even better. I prefer to use white cake mixes and add red food coloring to the batter. For those that live on the mainland, Walmart sells Guava Nectar in the 1/2 gallon size. I use that in my cakes. Also, I have found it helpful to double the "gel" on the cake. For the gel, I use 4 cups of guava nectar and (1/2 cup corn starch mixed with 1/22 gauva nectar) and stir that the juice mixture. Enhances the taste a lot.
