Book Signings During Merrie Monarch Week at Sig Zane Designs!
The hula piko of the world is Hilo during Merrie Monarch week, and that’s where Hula Moon Press brings its best-selling release to Hawai’i Island for the first time. Come on by if you’re in Hilo! From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 8 and 9 and until 3 p.m. April 10, author Jocelyn Fujii will sign copies of Stories of Aloha: Homegrown Treasures of Hawai'i at Sig Zane Designs., 122 Kamehameha Ave. on the Hilo Bayfront. The beloved Hilo designer, his wife, kumu hula extraordinaire Nālani Kanaka’ole, and their son, Kuha’o, are a Hawai'i signature and one of the cultural treasures and family businesses featured in the 264-page book. Some of the other featured artists and mom-and-pop treasures will join the signing from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on April 10.

Hawaiian Pidgin English story telling performance by Kamaka Brown happens this Saturday, March 20th in Camarillo, California. Kamaka toured the Pacific Northwest, Northern and Southern California in 2009 with his "If Can. Can. If No Can. No Can" show with slack key guitar players, traditional and contemporary Hawaiian music artists.
This Saturday, Hawaiian Music Award winner and Na Hoku Hanohano nominee ki ho'alu guitarist Kimo West joins Kamaka along with the nahe nahe music of Moana.
"I am so excited about having Kimo West join me on stage. He's often busy touring with Weird Al Yankovich all around the country. We've been trying to see when our calendars would make it possible and March 20th was perfect for him."
Charley Kiaha and Ilima Russell who are the awesome duo Moana also were back in town between gigs in San Francisco. I just happened to be talking to Charley and mentioned the show and BOOM....we are doing it together. This show is gonna be totally off da hook!" Brown said.
