Stories of Aloha: Homegrown Treasures of Hawai'i The New Must-Have Book from Hawai'i!
The Garden Island newspaper calls it “a road map to Hawaiian etiquette, tradition and most importantly, the heart of its people.” The Honolulu Advertiser says, “…you felt as though you’ve learned something about your community and … picked up some new ideas on where to shop or visit.” The Maui News calls the book “uplifting tales in bite-size morsels.” Richard Chamberlain writes, “To embrace the soul of Hawai'i, take Jocelyn’s hand and follow her into the lives of Hawai'i’s greatest treasures: her people.”
They’re talking about Stories of Aloha: Homegrown Treasures of Hawai'i, a homegrown book that captures the spirit of aloha to spread around the world. Lauhala weavers, kumu hula, plate-lunch icons, artists, farmers, musicians—cultural treasures and neighborhood favorites spring to life in this 264-page, full-color volume by Hawai'i writer Jocelyn Fujii. You’ll find island recipes by former Aloha Airlines employees, essays on the local lifestyle, and profiles, with updates, on Hawai'i’s local heroes and mom-and-pop businesses.
Read about local legends Kamaka ‘Ukulele, Sig Zane Designs, Rainbow Drive-In, Tip Top Motel, Café and Bakery, Hamura Saimin, Kimura Lauhala Store, Kamakakehau Fernandez, five-time Na Hoku Hanohano award winner Kaumakaiwa Kanaka’ole, and more than a hundred other island treasures in this best-selling release, with a foreword by Richard Chamberlain and photography by Brett Uprichard.

AW's roving ambassador Kamaka Brown brings his original Hawaiian Pidgin English stories show to Camarillo, California March 20th. "I am excited to have my friend Hawaiian Music Award winner, Kimo West on stage for this show. It's going to be awesome."
Kamaka's "If Can Can. If No Can. No Can." shows playing in Southern California have been sold out performances. Here's what one reviewer had to say about the show:
“This is an offering from a sharp, professional comedian and talented story teller replete with a full cadre of supporting wits and players. This is a genuine musical presentation with a generous serving of funny stagecraft. What a delight they are. He and his musician friend weave a tuneful spell between stories of childhood thrills, vivid memories and unique adventures. All this from the perspective of soothing country life in sleepy Hawaii. Music is played. Philosophy is exchanged and native wisdom shared. And the music! If anyone in the audience does not like the soothing instrumental of a solo acoustic guitar they are "soul deprived" and seriously humor impaired.”
Kamaka Brown with Kimo West March 20th in Camarillo, California. Check the Aloha World Mainland Events calendar for details. Ticket reservations: 805-482-3916.
