Nā Koa Kai Canoe Club

Four years after starting and running the first cultural immersion program for our nāʻōpio in San Diego, the founder of that program has started a new club dedicated just to our kamali'i. This club has two purposes: •Combat the unhealthy obesity epidemic among Pacific Islanders and other ethnic youths in our community by educating our ʽōpio (youth) about the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle. This will be accomplished in part through education and by preparing them and encouraging them to race in competitive outrigger canoe races. •Educate our ʽōpio (youth) about the Hawaiian and Pacific Islander culture through ʽōlelo (language), na mea hana lima (hand crafts), oli (chants), nā pule (prayers), moʽoleo kahiko o Hawaiʽi (ancient History of Hawai'i). And the mo'olelo kahiko o wa'a (history of the canoe). Nā Koa Kai Canoe Club - Perpetuating The Hawaiian Culture One Keiki At A Time…
