KUHAI HALAU O KEKA`EILAUA`EOKALANI PA OLAPA KAHIKO is a Hula School based in San Diego, CA. Kumu Keka`eilaua`eokalani Haupu (Kumu "K") first opened her Halau in 1998 only 3 years after moving from her beloved Kaua`i to San Diego. She did so with the blessing of her Kumu Hula of her childhood, Aunty Ku`ulei Punua. Being a student of a very gifted teacher at such a young age has given Kumu "K" a strong foundation in Hula. In February of 2010, Kumu "K" was given the opportunity to become a haumana (student) of Hawaiian Hula Master, Loea Kawaikapuokalani Hewett where she successfully completed formal training in Hula Kahiko (ancient dance) and participated in a formal Uniki (graduation) Ceremony at Loea`s home, Kahalelehua, on the Big Island of Hawaii in May of 2012. In continuing the lineage of her Loea, Kawaikapuokalani Hewett, Kumu "K" has taken the name KUHAI HALAU as she embarks into continuing his teachings, that have been handed down to him from his teacher Emma DeFries whom he has gone through the ancient ceremony of 'Uniki under. He gives respect & gives credit to all his past Kumu's that have guided him....Grandmother Eva Wahineali'i Rowan Kana'e, Edith Kanaka'ole, Iolani Luahine, Mae Loebenstein, Lani Kalama and George Na'ope whom he had the privilege to study under. Loea Kawaikapuokalani celebrated his 50th Anniversary of teaching in 2012.
