Lava Moon

LAVA MOON represents Leina'ala Kailiawa and Jonathan Siebrandt. Leina'ala or "Lava" as her friends calls her is a native Hawaiian raised on the island Moku 'O Keawe (the Big Island) and cannot remember the first time she held an ukulele as it was always in her life. Jonathan...the "Moon" grew up in the Appalachian foothills of North Carolina surrounded by bluegrass and gospel influences. The edgy singer/songwriter had a date with destiny one hot August night at the tiki bar Lakanuki in Mammoth Lakes, California...elevation 8050. "Ha'ina mai ka puana" As the story goes...Johnny was playing a gig at Henessey's at the Village in Mammoth. Rained out and still wanting to play, he and his "entourage" found their way up to the tiki bar because, "I heard there was some hula dancing Hawaiian chick playing here". Their first exchange was, "is that a you-ku-lele?" he said to Leina'ala. "You mean ukulele" She answered. "Can you play that thing?" "Nah, I just carry it around". In his most charming southern accent he said, "So...why don't we make some beautiful music together?". There it is, the rest they say is history. Lava Moon are a genre smashing musical experience combining traditional Hawaiian, Reggae, Rock, Country, Bluesgrass, Blues, Jazz and whatever else tickles your fancy.
